About HorseRadish Farm

HorseRadish FarmWelcome to HorseRadish Farm.  We are a small family (Gary, Julie, Cassie and Caleb) owned/operated horse farm in Glasgow, KY, near the heart of Tennessee Walking Horse country.

First the name, how did we come up with it?   Well,  we were brainstorming for a farm name on our way back from Shelbyville, TN  where we had just purchased our I'm for Keeps mare.  It was Cassie's 11th birthday and she shouted out from the back seat, "How about HorseRadish Farm"?  She had not ever heard of  the word before or knew what horseradish was.  We thought it was very cute and it seemed to stick, so that is how we got our name, HorseRadish Farm.  How did we get here? A few years ago we reluctantly decided to sell our kids horses due to financial difficulty from a car accident Julie was in.  Even though Julie was in pain, her and the kids love for horses stayed incredibly strong.  As soon as we could Julie purchased two kids riding geldings and a beautiful bay roan Tennessee Walking Horse mare, Handshaker's Blazin Threat.  Julie had high hopes that with a smooth gaited horse she could still ride, but as her condition worsened riding became impossible.  As a family, we decided that all though we were unable to ride, we still wanted to be involved with horses and thought we would put our knowledge to the test and start breeding.  We bought several more well bred mares and we were off and walking!  We took all of our mares to be bred by quality horses until we had an opportunity to purchase a Perlino Stallion in the Summer of 2008.  Yogi has great conformation and gait, long, thick flowing mane and tail, short back, beautiful head and an incredible disposition. We couldn't have asked for anything more in a stallion, except a total guarantee of color. In May 2010, we purchased our second stallion, Ivory's Mountain Magic specifically for that reason. He has all the wonderful traits of Yogi, and the genetics to boot! Maverick will only sire BUCKSKIN or PALOMINO with any black, bay, sorrel or chestnut mare. Check out the stallion page for a color chart with these rare genetics.

Our main focus is the breeding, raising and training of top quality naturally gaited trail and pleasure Tennessee Walking Horses.  We firmly believe that foundation bloodlines and pedigree definitely make the difference. Of course each and every mare has been hand picked for breeding. First and foremost they must display a perfect temperament, not a mean or sour horse on this farm. Almost every mare we have is sired directly by a WGC. These include, The Whole Nine Yards, The Pushover, Cash For Keeps, Pride's Jubilee Encore and more, but all have very impressive lines. Great conformation and gait is a must for our mares. With the purchase of our Perlino Stallions,  we also have the opportunity to be breeding for more desirable colored foals. At birth, each foal is imprinted. Every foal is handled and trained daily. We are very careful to make sure that every experience the foals have is always a positive one, especially when they are so young. We use a Natural Horsemanship method of training and some of the things every foal learns here is to lead, back, load, send away, jump over objects, move away from pressure and lots of time is made for despooking to different objects like umbrellas.

We are not a "Horse and Livestock Company" or "professional horse traders/brokers".  We are just a family with a genuine love for horses.  Since we do not entrust the care and handling of our horses to others, the number of horses available will vary and be limited to those we consider to be the best that we can offer, while keeping the amount of work at a level we can do ourselves.  Come and take a test ride, or check out the pictures and videos on our Horses for Sale page.  We appreciate you taking time to look through our site and certainly hope to hear from you.
