Live Cover and Artificial Insemination Breeding Contract
Stud Fee $200
Mare Care $7 per day
Rear shoes must be pulled prior to drop off for live cover breeding, or we will artificial inseminate. We will refuse live cover service to any mare with rear shoes on for safety of our stallion. If owner prefers, we will have our farrier come out to pull shoes, but at OWNER'S EXPENSE.
OR, we are happy to artificially inseminate mare. We will breed by AI the same amount of days, using studs entire collection, just as we normally would do live cover. Cost for insemination of mare is $10 each collection/insemination to cover supplies needed.

OUTSIDE MARES
Your mare's comfort and safety are our #1 concern when they are here to breed to our stallion. While your mare and/or foal is on our property,
she will stay in a 12 x 24 stall with daily turnout. Stalls are kept clean. Manure is removed daily from paddock. Water is always available.
She will have an ample supply of hay and a scoop Purina Omolene twice per day. If she does not arrive in heat, ready to breed, she will be teased at least twice daily to help her come
into a good strong standing heat. While mares are in standing heat, they are still teased and checked twice daily to keep track of
and continue their "receptiveness" to the stallion. I firmly believe that stimulation provided by aggressive teasing is the key to effective breeding.
Horses are much like humans, in that the mind is a stimulating and powerful organ. Teasing and contact is a natural uterine preperation.
It is an extremely important part of the whole breeding process, not just during the act of breeding itself. We also have invested in the
OVASCAN OVULATION MONITOR to ensure we get your mare bred as soon as possible while saving you time and money.
We never breed by tying a mare up and forcing her. We allow the mare time
to accept the stallion and feel free to move if she feels overwhelmed by the presence of a stallion. We have devised a special breeding
area and our own "method" of handling the mare during breeding
works extremely well. We secure the mare with special "TIE" rings from Clinton Anderson that allow a mare to move away if scared by the stallion, but still remained tied.
When the mares feet stop moving, we simply move the mare back to the original spot we started her at and try again. Eventually, the mare realizes that she doesn't have to be scared and stops moving.
When a stallion is brought to a mare, even though they are ready to be bred, some will always panic, and therefore, we never tie a mare.
This method of securing the mare is especially less stressful for the maiden mare, for mares that have had bad experiences before
and for mares that do not tie well or mares that tend to panic.
This is not something we do on a "part-time" basis or inbetween working other jobs. Julie is on the farm full-time and is always on
hand to watch and care for everyone on it's premesis. A wireless camera is always on in the house to help watch over visiting mares.
You can rest easy, receiving daily updates via e-mail or text of your mares progress.
Ovascan Ovulation Monitor
Each mare is checked daily with the OVASCAN. The following information is an example of what every mare owner receives post breeding. This is an actual copy of what an owner was given.
His mare arrived in heat and was bred. As I tested the 2nd day, I knew she had not ovulated yet and waited to breed again until just prior to ovulation. She was bred at and just before ovulation to increase her odds of fertilization.
The OVASCAN helps us to breed off of ovulation instead of breeding off of a heat cycle, increasing odds of being bred, while decreasing chances of injury and infection.

The common practice for breeding is to breed a mare every other day while she will stand for a stud during a heat cycle.
Heat is an indication that ovulation is imminent, but it is not always accurate. Ovulation can take place before, during or after visible heat.
The Ovascan reads the chemical and electrical characteristics of mucus in the mare’s vagina making prediction and conformation of ovulation easy.
The monitor makes it possible to breed your mare by ovulation, not by a heat cycle. Since an egg may only be viable up to 8 hours after release,
it is vital to have the sperm available at the correct time. Use of the Ovascan will reduce the amount of times your mare is covered,
which reduces the chance of infection and/or injury. Also, board costs may be reduced. It is well known by breeders that by the time a mare refuses a stallion,
she has already ovulated 24 to 48 hours prior. So by continuing to breed after the mare has ovulated until she refuses the stallion,
it can add several more days on to a board bill. But without a monitor, it is impossible to identify when a mare has ovulated until refusal of stallion.
Also, during peak heat of the summer, a mare’s cycle can change which is referred to as summer anestrous. The Ovascan is helpful in times
like this where the mare is not showing a proper heat cycle; therefore making ovulation more difficult to predict. We will also be able to identify a
mare that is showing visible heat signs, but not ovulating. With out this monitor, if mare is not in foal after a normal appearing cycle, we would normally rebreed the next cycle,
assuming that breeding was not successful, but not being able to pin point why. In this case, we would be able to save you valuable time and
money in recommending a visit to a veterinarian months in advance, knowing that there is an issue with the mare’s cycle. Also, on occasion a mare
will come in full standing heat, but when the stallion mounts, the mare refuses him. On rare situations like these, the monitor will aid in giving
us more information on hormone levels and changes to see if this behavior indicates the need for a veterinarian, such as a cyst present.
Some mares also have a silent heat, they ovulate, but with absolutely no signs of a heat cycle. Without the monitor,
it is impossible to catch the mare ovulating. Again, this would save you valuable time and money. The OVASCAN also will alarm
us to a lutenized unruptered follicle, which occurs when the follicle is present and continues to grow but is never released. If
caught in time, a veterinarian may be able to release the egg for fertilization before the egg becomes too mature and is no longer viable.
The monitor will also alarm us to a mare that is suffering from a uterine infectine and even to twin ovulation.
The Ovascan Ovulation Monitor will be used in conjunction with teasing a mare daily to assess the
best time to breed; therefore increasing odds of getting your mare in foal.
Cooled Shipped Semen
We collect here on our farm for shipping semen on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Mav has been trained to collect with the phantom dummy mare. His sperm count is consistantly averaging 300 million sperm per mililiter,
After 24 hours in a cooled shipping container, he is averaging 80% progressively motile sperm. This is a wonderful percentage, since 50% dead is a typical number some may expect to see.
At least two doses of over 1 billion sperm are shipped with each request for cooled semen, whenever possible. This is the industry standard.
Depending on the volume collected, we will always try to send out more than two doses, which is far beyond what your vet will need. We use what is considered a "gormet" extender, called VMD-Z.
This extender has no antibiotics in it that can cause any sensitivity to the mare. Extender, simply put, is a food base for the sperm so it is able to live longer
and handle the shipment. We use a disposable, approved shipping container for transporting cooled semen. There is no deposit required for these containers and they can simply be disposed of.
If you wish to breed your mare by AI using shipped, cooled semen, it is important that your vet be experienced with the procedure. The entire cost for stud fee/collection/container/shipping is $450.
If additional shipments are required, an additional $250 per shipment is required since we have to collect, ship and use another container.
Or, if you return the original shipping container in same condition with all parts (freezer pack, styrofoam seperator and lid), we will issue you a $50 credit on any future shipment once it arrives.
As long as you continue to return the shipping box, we will continue to issue you a $50 credit on any future shipments required. The cost to return the box thru the Post Office is about $10.
It is best to check with your vet ahead of time to find out what they charge for ultrasounds and to artificially inseminate..
Using shipped semen can be a wonderful opportunity to breed to a stallion that is just too far away to breed naturally to. Also, overall it may save you money. You would only pay mare care fees if your mare is left at the vet's office,
you are only transporting to the vet, no risk of breeding injury and your mare gets to stay in her familiar surroundings while you get to enjoy her.
We will always try to honor special requests for shipped semen on non-collection days.
We are only able to honor requests if the quality of the semen will not be affected.
